Near the end of July, I had an unexpected and enchanting encounter during one of my runs. Although I expected the pink trumpet tree to bloom between late winter and early spring, I still thought I would only find it in the weeks ahead.

There it stood: a modest tree, completely leafless, yet proudly displaying a handful of delicate pink blossoms. The following day, I spotted another trumpet tree while driving by. Without hesitation, I set myself a new goal, to run back there so I could observe and photograph it more closely. By then, there was no doubt: it was a magnificent pink trumpet tree in bloom.

After taking my photographs, I resumed my run, but my thoughts remained with that tree. For a few moments, in my mind, I was already mixing colors and laying down the first brushstrokes.

My next watercolor began there.
