On Friday, Mariana’s watercolor arrives on the blog as the continuation of an encounter that began long before the paper.

After three distinct moments with the species: First in research, then in the field during the rainy season, and more recently in the April reunion during my weekend cycling routes. I can now clearly perceive how the painting was shaped by a new kind of observation.

In this second watercolor version, my gaze was no longer focused only on the delicacy of the petals, although they remain one of the most enchanting aspects of the species. This time, the leaves took on a central role in the process.

The reunion in the field, especially on Saturday, when I was able to sit and calmly observe the plant, brought very important visual information to the painting: the direction of growth, the shape of the leaves, the rhythm of the branch, and the way the species organizes itself in space.

When I returned to the worktable, I realized that the watercolor was no longer just a representation of the flower, it had also become a translation of the journey, the movement through the territory, the pause to observe, and the maturing of the gaze.

The leaves, which had remained in the background during the first encounter, now gained prominence.

It was as if the field had completed what the first painting had not yet been able to reach.

This second version of Mariana is born precisely from this deepening: a gaze that already knows the delicacy of the petals, but now better understands the living structure of the species.

It is at this point that observation transforms technique. The watercolor ceases to be only beauty and begins to carry experience, presence, and the memory of the territory.

The Mariana flower continues.

Throughout this week, the same species will continue to unfold across the field journal and the painting process, through new observations, layers, and evolving studies.
